The Blues Team

The Blues team is the university’s top swimming squad. Swimming is one of the few Full Blue sports at Oxford and so the Blues team has a prestigious status in the sporting scene. The main focus of the season is the Varsity Match against Cambridge, which is the oldest swimming event in the world (preceding the modern Olympic Games by 4 years!). The squad also compete at the British University Championships (both short and long course competitions) and regional meets. However, there’s more to the team than training and competitions – there are also weekly socials ranging from post-training brunches to games nights and college bar crawls.

Trials for the team are held at the end of Freshers Week, but don’t stress too much about these – most people have taken time out of swimming and we know everyone is not at peak fitness straight after the summer holidays!

The Blues Team train 8 times a week, with swimmers expected to attend at least 6 sessions. The blues training times can be found here. Five of the sessions are coached and the remaining three are led by the captains, although all sets are written by the coach. Each week usually consists of a mixture of kick, pull, aerobic, drill/skills and quality sessions.

If you have any questions, then please drop one of the captains a message! If you are interested in joining this season, then you can express interest on this form: https://forms.gle/QEbfcYq6oeYXGsQY7
