Season’s Schedule 2013-2014
Training camp –– Oxford University –– Monday 30th September – Saturday 5th September 2013 (-1 week MT13)
Held every year at the Rosenblatt Pool in –1 week. A good time to dust off the cobwebs and get back into a training regime.
Freshers’ Fair –– Oxford University –– Tuesday 8th October – Friday 11th October (0th week MT13)
Held every year in the Examinations School in Fresher’ Week. Great time for people interested in trying out for the team to meet current team members, like the captains.
OUSC Team Trials –– Oxford University –– Sunday 13th October (1pm – 2pm)(1st week MT13)
Swimming try-outs for the official Oxford University Swimming Club at Rosenblatt Pool. Events involve two 50m swims (one on freestyle, one on another stroke). Also a great chance to meet other people, even if you don’t make the final team.
Friendly Gala –– Oxford University –– Saturday 26th October (5pm – 7pm) (2nd week MT13)
We host a friendly gala during the year against several other Universities, on home turf (Rosenblatt pool). Everyone should make himself or herself available, as we like to enter more than one team. Great fun for all involved.
Cuppers –– Oxford University –– Saturday 2nd November (5pm – 7pm) (3rd week MT13)
Rosenblatt Pool is host to Cuppers, the inter-collegiate swimming competition. Absolutely anyone from the university can be part of the competition, and the more people who attend, the more fun it usually turns out to be!
BUCS Championships (Division 1 Southern Regional round) –– TBC –– Sunday 17th November (6th week MT13)
The team departs mid morning and arrives back at about 9.00pm. This is the Pre-Qualifying round before the rounds and finals, held in Sheffield at the Student Games during March (see below).
BUCS Short Course Championship –– Sheffield –– Friday 6th – Sunday 8th December (8th & 9th week MT13)
Held on the weekend at the end of 8th week at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge, one of the best and fastest pools in the country. Anyone attending this meet must be prepared to leave on the Friday and return on the Sunday evening.
Training Camp –– Oxford University –– Monday 9th – Saturday 14th December (9th week MT13)
Training after Michaelmas term, important to keep up the Aerobic base and not lose fitness after the hard work in the term
Training Camp –– Torremolinos, Spain –– early January (TBC) (Usually between 3rd and 13th January) (HT14)
Included are 26-28 hours of water time, up to 4 hours land training and up to 4 hours in the classroom. All Squad swimmers with any ambition of swimming in the Varsity Match must attend this camp. If you don’t think you can afford the trip, but would love to come, speak to the treasurer and the coaches.
Maxwell Open Meet –– Aylesbury –– TBC (~January) (HT14)
An open meet that is compulsory for the senior blues squad who expect to be selected for the varsity match. The competition results are usually used to help the coaches decide on the final varsity team, along with several other variables.
Varsity Match –– TBC –– TBC (~February) (HT14)
Held every year alternately at Oxford and Cambridge. The 2013 match will be held in Cambridge. All swimmers should plan, prepare and be available for this gala.
BUCS Long Course Championship –– Sheffield–– Friday 21st – Sunday 23rd February (5th & 6th week HT14)
Held on the weekend at the end of 4th Week in Sheffield, one of the best and fastest pools in the country. Anyone attending this meet must be prepared to leave on the Friday and return on the Sunday evening. Each club is limited to two swimmers per event so if you are entered you’re expected to swim.
Bracknell Master –– Bracknell –– Saturday 1st March (6th week HT14)
At the end of Hilary term it is expected that as many people as possible attend this meet especially on the first weekend. A last chance gala for a blue’s time
BUCS Team Championships National finals –– Sheffield –– Saturday 22nd March (9th week HT14)
Finals held at the Student Games in Sheffield.
Varsity Channel Relay –– English Channel –– Summer 2014, 11th – 18th July
This channel relay swim against Cambridge has become highly anticipated during its long planning.
