2014 saw the first annual Varsity Henley Swim. The Henley Classic is a 2.1km endurance event held at the Henley Royal Regatta course very early on the Sunday morning, before the start of the Royal Regatta on Wednesday. The event is a celebration of mid-summer and provides a unique opportunity to swim one of the most famous and beautiful stretches of open water in the world, at what we believe is the most beautiful time of the day: dawn.

The format of the event is as follows:
- Elite Varsity Match
- Elite Alumni Varsity Match
Each Match has 4 men and 4 women from each university, with the cumulative time of the 1st 3 men or women determining the results.
- Mob match – this will be open to all swimmer capable of safely completing the 2.1km and results will be determined on taking the cumulative time from the smaller team and the equivalent number of the fastest swimmers from the other university.
