Channel Solo Triumph
Huge congratulations to George Stannard for completing the English Channel swim in an incredible time of 10h 55. Commencing his swim from the white cliffs of Dover just before dawn on the 21st July, George survived the cold, cramps, currents and jellyfish, arriving on French shores in the early afternoon. George not only conquered the Channel, but he did it in style, achieving the fastest time of the day and celebrated with some well-deserved champagne.
Having acted as support swimmer for previous OUSC swimmer Naomi Vides as she made her successful journey across the channel last year, George was inspired by Naomi’s incredible perseverance and determination, and decided to attempt the challenge of a solo English Channel crossing himself this year. When George began to tire around 8 hours into the swim, Naomi jumped in to return the favour, acting as his support swimmer.
Swimming in aid of three wonderful charities; Reverse Rett, Medicins Sans Frontières (MSF) and SOFEA, George surpassed his target of raising £3000 to share between these charities.
