OUSC in masters meet medal storm
March 3rd 2012 saw seven OUSC swimmers take part in the BWSC Masters’ Open meet in Bracknell. Overall this was a very successful event with 16 personal best times, 23 medals: 14 Gold, 7 silver and 2 bronze and a club record.
One of the most notable races was the 200m Freestyle opening event in which Katherine Rollins, Rebecca Neal and Antonia Millard all swam personal best times going on to finish in first, second and third place respectively – a real medal haul for OUSC.
Another exciting event was 200m butterfly swam by Rebecca Neal. Not only did she manage to come first in a new best time but she also broke the club record in a time of : 2:28.50.
The grand finale came in the final heat of the final individual events: 200m IM. This event was swam mixed and representing were Rebecca Neal, Joe Northover and James Simmons against 3 Teddington swimmers. It was a fantastic event really showing off the benefits of Justine’s coaching with some 14.5m underwaters and continued strength and speed throughout the race – the result of many breath control and negative splits sessions in training. All three came back in personal best times leading to more medals: 2 gold and a silver.
This was a hugely successful meet for OUSC with lots of medals, each swimmer making at least one new personal best time and a new club record. Well done everyone!!!
